“There was a ship once on a time And it’s name was ‘Drottningholm’ It held food and money plus a Family crummy Which was filled with American Pep, not Rum. It was morning on the briny deep And the Sun was fierce and bright La Famille Royale were walking And with the wind made fight. At a spot called Sandy or Hook or whatnot. This little boat tipped them and left. ‘View the works’ screamed the Crown Prince. And flew to the Fore. But the steerage was sleeping and Family were sore – at the Crown Prince. Somewhat later on the top deck sat that Family on row.”

Midelfart – Norway trip, 1924. “On the top of a very high mountain The train did stop for while And the Queen did get out of the coach And she talkèd and walkèd a mile. The man in the view is an nothing ‘Tis the background is seen with regret For the snow that was piled on that mountain Is as naught through the camera’s snap. – Bergen – Fish in the Market and snow of the mountains Streets that were narrow and a rain that was rampant. Such did the Familee rélize in Bergen Withal a quaint city with character – plus many nice people. The market is a brilliant place With colour, life and smell. The Princess to one booth did go But what she bought no one could tell There was choice of foods to fill, but for the dainty palate, nil! At the head of the stairs in the entry stood the kennel that once housed a cur! The was of heaviest iron Which when pulled at would make the bell burr!” Train trip to Bergen, Norway

The road down the cleft The family descended – And the steepness weak+kneed them at last. Only half of the falls could be taken Trees obstructed the rest of its length. Then they came to the huts in the fjelder where the goat and its herder lives. On the roofs grass and flowers grow.”

At ‘Förde – ‘Where’s the map?’ was the cry in the morning – ‘Where to next?’ was the war cry each night. And the Guide who was fearfully clever Planned the trend of the trip by daylight. “To Balholm – They saw the clouds cling to the sides of the mountains with every varying shapes – On their way with their feet on the railing, eating chocolate and viewing the views! The heir-apparent would not go a-haying, said the Norwegians: Do it so! They stopped for a snooze on their journey And such were the couched they picked. And three of the court did climb a mountian And warm was the day. Mary had a little lamb Its fleece was rather gray The one whom music captivates discovered it one day It was perched on the top of a mountain – ont he top of rock as well. When it looked on this scene below It jingled its little bell.”

Photo album of Axel Holst and H.C.U. Midelfart – Norway trip, 1924. “Vassenden – The car stopped with two jerks and the family descended. It ate and it looked, all of which was intended – Then it climbed in again, rode for milse ‘long the shore. Saw such stunners of mountains ’twas thrilled to the core. The one with the wind power always ahead. Known as resting at full length- Cause – excessive breathing. The Climb over Utvik Fjeld – The car was abandoned, the climb was begun- At each pause in the struggle, they rested for fun! They climbed over the mountain and it took then right long. There was wind o’er the high peaks And the air made them strong. They sang as they marched – it was good then to live To take from the moutains all the beauty they give.”

“Utvik – The Princess, the Crown Prince, the courtly musician and also the Court Attachée took a walk on this road of a morning and were speechless – They’d nothing to say! ‘Come to my arms, my beamish boy’ she cried as the food appeared ‘Were we ever so hungry, this side of the Pondy’ ‘Either that of an apple’ roared he. View from the Royal Suite at Utvik The band it turne out for to greet them With a tune that was right for the season. Then they rode for a space on a steamer. It was Sunday and that was the reason. Loen – Ha! ha! And here they strained their eyes – A thriller lay before them A Turkish Prince had anchored there on his magnificent yaht with his harem. Yon tiny boat had left its side and they saw it as it passed their vessel. A Norwegian ‘toll-officer’ acting as guide to two swarthy-faced Turkish seamen.”

When they stopped for to eat with this outlook For the road had been curved – It had turns that were sharp It had taken great nerve for to like it. ‘Lillehamar’- A bit of a city With a glimpse of Mjüsen – Norway’s largest Lake. Oh! A wave and a win’ with a suit to creeping That’s the life for a carefree rover! Come all ye who are able And flock to the table And take what you find before you.
