Erik Midelfort at left, Signe at rear. Unknown child at front (not Kristin or Elise). Erik Relates: “I do remember that train ride down to Larvik in 1955. Mom fed us so many hard lemon candies that my mouth got pickled into a steady pucker until I could get enough water to drink. And I remember the family gathering in Larvik too, with everyone present; Tante Louise, Onkel August, Ulrik, Kåre, and Halvard. It was a fine visit, at least from my limited (13 years old) point of view. If Elise and Kristin were left behind in Granli, that would have conformed to the pattern that our parents found workable, to divide the four of us into two, the older pair (Erik and Signe) and the younger (Elise and Kristin). They did that a lot.” Photo by A. K. Hellum
