These are a loose selection of images shot by my father in the years before he came to Canada (which was in 1955) and in the few years after his arrival. They are not in chronological order, although they should be. He worked as a ‘timber cruiser’ in the BC interior during summers between studying Forestry at UBC for his undergrad. He was 22 years old when he came to Canada. So these images are mostly from three summers; 1952, 1955 and 1956. The city and boat images are from his arrival in New York aboard the ‘Stavangerfjord’. Interestingly, it was this same ship he took with his family in 1946 to visit American family post-war. I understand it is also the same ship that took some of his American cousins to visit Norway years later. I wonder how many crossings that ship made, all told?
