Owen, along with his classmates, was tasked with writing some poetry for school. They were given the parametres of a variety of poetic formats and asked to write they felt. I was immensely<\/em> proud of Owen’s poetry, and with his permission am posting some of it here:<\/p>\n

Rhyming Couplet:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The moon is big, the moon is white
\nO my gosh what a sight!<\/em>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Quatrain:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Chocolate milk how delicious
\nI would drink it if it came from a pit
\nSlurping, glurping yum in my tum
\nBe sure robbers don’t steal it<\/em>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Acrostic:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Green and soft
\nRead lovely books on it
\nAwesome to play in
\nSensational to have pic-nics in
\nSuper easy to pick<\/em>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Haikus:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

–Storks<\/strong>–
\nSlender and skinny
\nFlying through the air, zooming
\nGliding down so fast<\/em>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

–Beetles<\/strong>–
\nBlack and glittery
\nCreeping slowly up your shirt
\nFlipping over grass<\/em>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

–Untitled<\/strong>–
\nIcky, sticky, muck
\nEats everything in its sight
\nIt’s a… yumtracky!<\/em>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

–Rabbits<\/strong>–
\nFur so soft and smooth
\nHops as high as pogo sticks
\nSniffing…everything!<\/em>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Freeverse:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Lights-up with a snap!
\nFlick, it’s on
\nlike a little man glowing
\na lightbulb is so bright<\/em>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Once there was a ponytail
\nwho ate a pumpkin
\n… and then …
\nthe wind started to blow
\nit punched him around …
\nsobldick – suckbird
\nhe was a duck!<\/em>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

Trains
\npickup, get off
\nrumbling, stopping, refilling
\nturning on the light

X-boxes
\nboom-boxes
\nall you can think of,
\ngiving you the news,
\ngiving you the weather, music thumps
\nloud from in-side the speakers like
\na rampaging elephant.<\/em>
