It makes me think of what Shainghai might be like, or european even. It even has rickety, old streetcars, narrow as the streets they run on. We visited the old Roman-era catacombs (no cameras allowed, sadly) this morning, then “Pompey’s Pillar” (really, dedicated to Diocletian in Rome), followed by the Alexandria Museum – a lovely place, but again no photos allowed. We foliowed this up by a nice lunch at Athienos restaurant which has that old world, very-high-ceilinged coffee house feel to it. We may go for a walk this afternoon along the Corniche again. The lovely amber air is gone today, replaced by buffeting winds and spray from the seawall.
