I find I really quite like Alexandria.

It makes me think of what Shainghai might be like, or european even. It even has rickety, old streetcars, narrow as the streets they run on. We visited the old Roman-era catacombs (no cameras allowed, sadly) this morning, then “Pompey’s Pillar” (really, dedicated to Diocletian in Rome), followed by the Alexandria Museum – a lovely place, but again no photos allowed. We foliowed this up by a nice lunch at Athienos restaurant which has that old world, very-high-ceilinged coffee house feel to it. We may go for a walk this afternoon along the Corniche again. The lovely amber air is gone today, replaced by buffeting winds and spray from the seawall. We’ll see…
