In August of 2009, our niece, Alice, came for a visit as she does each summer. That year we took her down to see St.Jacob’s and Elora where there is a concentration of strict Mennonite communities. We stayed at a hotel in Kitchener and I woke early one morning at 5am and went out for a walk. Here are some of the images from that walk and a few from the Elora Gorge:
A power grid humming through the wee hours in Kitchener, Ontario.
Traffic circle, also known as a roundabout in the UK.
Deserted shopping plaza lot at about 5:30am.
Instant tree.
“You will be ejected when passing here”
Our niece, Alice, in the Elora Gorge.
Random path above the Elora Gorge.
Owen negotiates a slippy edge, along the Grand River forming the Elora Gorge.
A Mennonite wannabe, showing us their carriages which they use each day. I say “wannabe” because he declared himself to not yet be Mennonite but said he felt comfortable referring to “we” and “us” in describing their culture.
