A very full weekend indeed… so full I totally forget what we did on Saturday because today has just eclipsed it. …Uh, oh yeah. All I have to do is read yesterday’s entry. Jeez.

Today we spent 90 percent of it out of doors. I finally hauled out the table I am making from inside the barn and did the first layer of sanding to the main surface. This was a hot and difficult job under the Sunday sun today. The belt sander was terrifically difficult to handle, for some reason, and my right hand is still sore from it. Carrie and her friend Alice, who was visiting, piled up the gravel-pile before the barn into a smaller and higher pile – some four feet (?) now; and then proceeded to cover it with sod clumps culled from excavations in the garden(s) in order to produce a ‘Hobbit Hill.’ We decided against an inside part due to concerns regarding possible collapsing (!). Generous watering of the sod clumps will hopefully bring the thing to life – so to speak.

We then piled into the wagon and drove to Doug and Liz’ for the birthday party of their younger daughter Rachel. In deference to the parents involved, I include herebelow only shots of our kids… There was a gentle and funny fellow running a puppet show at the outset and he pulled off a very funny version of the Frog Princess. A lovely screaming yelling time was had by all.
