Owen, Finn and I drove in to the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) today. There was on exhibit a wide variety of accoutrements from the Maharajas of India – the Raj; paintings, photographs, clothing, sculpture, interior design, a gold and silver Rolls Royce… It was packed, like AGo specials usually are and I hoisted the kids where I could to see things more easily.
At one point, I noticed Owen taking a closer look at one of those Moghul-era miniature of a couple in coitus. I observed him as he observed, then quietly bent over and asked if there was anything that needed explaining? “No,” came the reply, ” I understand what is going on there.”
As photography is not allowed within the galleries, we resorted to the open rotunda for breathing space and a chance to sit down. Here are some photos from there. The photograph(s) that got away today? Finn sitting in the middle of the floor in several galleries, sketching elements from paintings in her 3″x4″ book. No photography in the galleries! Damn shame, would have made for marvellous photos of this leaf of a girl in the open space of a grand floor, surrounding on four sides by Titian, Tintoretto, Lucas Cranach and Rodin.
